Introduction
Proposition 49 (passed in 2002) and SB 638 (signed in September
2006) provide new funding for after school programs and give priority
to schools serving low-income students. Schools with 50 percent or
more students eligible for the free or reduced-price meal program
receive top priority in receiving new after school (ASES) program
grants. However, all schools are eligible to apply.
The kit includes:
- An overview of the new and improved state after school
grant program and streamlined application process
- Strategies for designing and planning an after school program that
leads to successful outcomes
- Ideas for partnering with community stakeholders and identifying
sources for matching funds
- Information to help describe a community’s need for an after school
program
- Additional resources for developing your program and completing the
application
Deadlines
- Existing 21st CCLC programs transitioning to ASES must apply
by Friday, November 3, 2006
- Applications for new ASES grants are due
Monday, November 6, 2006
